The South Gate Educational Center is the new 18.5 acre East Los Angeles College satellite campus with a new 105,000 square-foot building that will include a library, lecture hall, classrooms and laboratories for the Career Technology Education, Liberal Arts and Science programs. The prime contractor on the project is Turner Construction.

The Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) $9.6 billion capital improvement program seeks to modernize and renovate the nine colleges and two satellite campuses. Since 2001, BuildLACCD has constructed new and renovated academic buildings, libraries, laboratories, sports facilities, arts complexes, administrative buildings, child development centers, central energy plants and implemented renewable energy projects. The Board of Trustees established a 30% Local, Small, Emerging, Disabled Veteran (LSEDV) participation goal for all contracts to ensure contracting opportunities for all.
