LAEDC would like to highlight AECOM and Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) for economic development efforts to support small business development, workforce development and local hiring in Los Angeles County.

(LOS ANGELES, CA) - The Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) is leading the way among green buildings for educational institutions. Many of LACCD’s newest and soon to be opened campus facilities, constructed under its BuildLACCD campus improvement program, are Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED™) certified or higher by the U.S. Green Building Council. LEED™ designation is an internationally recognized designation for buildings that are resource efficient, use less water and energy to operate and reduce overall greenhouse gas emissions.

BuildLACCD, the Los Angeles Community College District’s construction and facilities improvement program under contract with AECOM today announced that 36% of its 1,715 workers reside within L.A. Community College boundaries and have earned improved wages, benefits, and pensions, based on construction projects awarded since October 2013.

Every college has a hub for student life. A place with gathering areas and services where students can get the answers they need to ensure their success. The Learning Resource Center at the Los Angeles Trade Technical College in Los Angeles has recently undergone a complete transformation to become this. It even has a new name: Mariposa Hall. This multifaceted complex houses a diversity of programs and supporting organizations for students, faculty and staff, including a library, offices and computer labs.

Program Highlights - March 2016

The Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) Small Contractor Boot Camp is a six-week program that provides small contractors with the tools necessary to improve their competitive capacity through a comprehensive, hands-on curriculum. At the conclusion of the program, small contractors will be ready to bid on BuildLACCD contracts.
