Adopting a “best practices” approach to the management of its $6 billion Building Program, the Los Angeles Community College District Board of Trustees today unanimously approved a resolution that will centralize management of the Program under a new Program Management contract.

The Los Angeles Community College District today released a report from an independent panel of education construction experts finding that while the program would greatly benefit from a variety of structural reforms, the Building Program has generally "achieved a good level of success in that a substantial majority of projects have been successfully completed."

Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD or the District) Board President Miguel Santiago announced this morning that he has asked Los Angeles City Controller Wendy Greuel to independently review findings of an audit by the office of the state controller’s office regarding the selection of the District’s inspector general.

After meeting in special session last evening to review an audit of the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD or the District) Building Program by the office of the state controller’s office, the LACCD Board of Trustees voted to direct District staff to develop a package of reforms to be considered at its next regular board meeting in September.

We are reviewing the audit release today by the office of California State Controller John Chiang. As a preliminary matter, it bears restating that the LACCD Building Program has been the subject of numerous regular and special financial and performance audits over the years.
