 Mission Possible: The Ride

New shuttles will shepherd students from the temporary parking lot to-and-from class as the new parking structure is built.

December 6, 2005

Los Angeles Mission College students got a preview of the new shuttle bus service that will transport them between the campus and a temporary parking lot about a mile away at an introduction party called “Mission Possible: The Ride”. The event, complete with music, food and give-a-ways, introduced more than 1,300 students to plans for the new parking structure and the shuttles that will bring students to-and-from campus during construction.  Many students opted to take a test ride to the temporary parking lot on the new shuttle.

The college will break ground in mid January on a three-story, 1,100 space parking structure.  The facility will be built on the site of the current student parking lot and will provide an increase of 400 new parking spaces.  Energy producing photovoltaic panels (most commonly known as solar cells) will help to provide shade to the rooftop spaces.  The shuttle service, which will be free for students, will begin on January 13.

“The new structure is an excellent solution for our growing student population,” said Interim President Dr. Jose Leyba.  “Students seem to be looking forward to the increased parking and are supportive of our construction efforts.  This is a great development for Mission College.”

When construction begins, students will no longer be able to use the current parking lot.  The shuttle bus made dozens of trips to the temporary parking lot to show bus-loads of students how long the new commute will take and where the pick-up/drop-off stations will be located.
